Swivvel Records -Andy and Twiggy Musical History

Some of the stuff that andy and twiggy have done over the past decade or so

The history, mission statement etc..........

Liner notes taken from Andy and Twiggy's Swivvel Records MP3 Sampler:

160 songs, 12 years, countless lineups and spin-offs, 2 original members, essentially 1 band

Stellar Art Wars- possibly our best name but not our only one- is just one of many such collectives/circles/cliques of musicians around the world, This album offers a unique insight into the musical diversity of one such group.

Bands are families, all related , and this represents just a small part of the un-famous side of Essex's rock 'n' roll family tree.

For every beatles there's another 10 bands as prolific but without any semblence of fame. here's just one

The majority of this collection was home recorded at zero budget on a fostex b-16 analog multitrack. Unfortunately fixing it is beyond our means at present, so we're stuck with harddisk. It'd be nice to have the cash to fix our dilapidated kit. Analog rox

We can perform or have performed 90% of this stuff live...

the upside: Being an unsigned artist, writer or producer means being skint, but it also gives a lot of freedom. We play what we want to hear and what we FEEL, not what is fashionable, not what sells, and not exactly what we're told to. (and nobody wants.... to go to jail!)

Forget plastic pop and corporate rock. These are a collection of recordings by real people with real lives. Sometimes distinctly odd lives. People with strange looks, strange moods, strange ideas, strange smells, strange voices (on the mic and in the head) strange guitaring, strange views, strange drumming..... in short, musicians You'll find it here in spades...........

Welcome to the underground, son, and it's a scary place. Some of the influences here are credible. Dylan, Clash, Elvis, Bowie and Mott. On the flip side there's Carter USM, Eternal and Steps. What adds to the fun is the almost complete randomness with which these influences collide. For the record- Andy and Dave have the worst taste.

There's no genre-fascism here- there's MOR, folk, dance, hip-hop, britpop, grunge ,love, politics, despair, seriousnous, sillyness- sometimes all at once. Some songs feature various recordings and takes in different styles.......

What you will find here, rare in today's "hit parade" is passion, soul and sheer rock 'n' roll balls. Something truly individual. Something truly human. Music that is FUN and MEANS SOMETHING Whack up the stereo, spark up and open some cans. You're in for a real treat!!

for best effect- set your MP3 player to random/shuffle!

TELLING LIES

Review...
Catches your interest right away... until the singer pops in....loses the party feel, sounds a bit karaoke

Little ding/dong bells in late intro are a bit too weasely.

Hard to judge the mood and melody, this singer doesn't quite deliver it well enough to decipher.

I think with the right voice you should re-post and try for reviews again.
- Rahbil from Louisville, Kentucky on 10Dec2006

Engaging and kwirky
Nice upbeat song, I like the originality of the vocal sound. A little like British pop sound, super poppy and fun to listen to.
- TawnyEllis from Los Angeles, California on 6Dec2006

Amusing and Quirky
A very creative, quirky arrangement. Personally, I would have loved to hear real instruments rather than programmed ones, but the production was a nice, ironic contrast to the superb lead vocalist. You've got a great voice, man!! I just loved the vocalist quirky, off kilter and pleasantly out-of-tune musings. It's a very catchy, amusing and lovingly produced song.
- dandylion_13 from Beverly Hills, California on 5Dec2006

I will give my honest opinion
cool vibe to the intro- party go happy atmosphere.
I like the presence of the bass in the mix.
Music supports the vocal well.
Melody is great, the British accent sounds great.
the chorus has a steady hook to it.
the mood is great and i like the percussive cow bells going on in the chorus- great instrumentation.
Overall a great effort!
Good luck!
- bettablocker from Toronto And California, Canada on 5Dec2006

80's new wave
enticing intro mood. Very 80's sound(thin Joboxers, Colourfield, FYC, Aztec camera)

Lyrics are a bit cliched

The vocalist is a bit flat in parts.

Not crazy about tune although I like the intrumentation.

Production and mix good
- A1anb from Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa on 4Dec2006

Confused
When the track kicks in there is a really groovy organ part which is great and then the most silliest and cheeziest trumpets come along and confuse the track and me!
The song sounds a bit like Blur jamming with a casio keyboard which is kind of fun and funky but also a bit naff at the same time. Good to hear something a little different though.
- King_Ross from United Kingdom on 4Dec2006

80's NEW WAVE REVIVAL
THIS IS A QUIRKY SONG. VERY 80'S RETRO. SOUNDS KIND OF LIKE "OUR HOUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET". I DONT CARE FOR THE PRODUCTION AND THE SONG IS NOT GREAT BUT IT IS SORT OF CUTE. I HOPE THE SINGER IS ACTUALLY BRITISH. HE HAS A DECENT VOICE.
- jgtr from Reseda, California on 3Dec2006

80s feel
This song has quite an 80s feel to it. I like the beat - simple but effective. Interesting mix of instrumentation. The mood is very upbeat and outgoing. I find the voice a little high in the mix compared to the other instruments, but this is a minor thing. This is not usually my type of thing, but I enjoyed it for what is was.
- OTP from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 2Dec2006

Funky dancey super spy brit pop surf
Cool cool intro. Fun and arizona spacey surfey stuff with a dash of Burt Bacharach. If I were baked I'd probably be giggling now.

Hmm...I didn't expect a Brit singing this. Holy Blur Batman, or should I say Rancid. Vocal melodies are very very catchy and I could care less that the guys pitch is wacked out. It actually kinda endearing.

The mood is spectacular, party on and feel sorry for yourself at the same time. the vocal hook is great. Perhaps a musical hook that you could hum on the bus would be a big asset here. Although that little dee dee guitar line works pretty well.

The recording is lacking a bit unfortunately. Give this track a big budget and you'd have a bona fide hit.

Well done.
- brampton from Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 1Dec2006

drunk rock
wacky instrumentation that holds together.. this is reminding me of Blind Melon but I'm sure it will change. The vocals either are purposely sung poorly, are a creative device, or the singer needs some help. This songs like a beatles tune, oasis, or blur. It isn't the english accent either, it just does. I'm not a big fan of the repetitive drum sound that keeps on mashing in the background and never changes. The keyboards are cool, im diggin' that. The lyrics are decent. The delivery is one of a drunken bar at 2a.m. Guys, you have to do something about the drums, please. It is killing me. :) They are too high up, the sound is wrong, and it is way to repetitive. I like the feeling of the song though. I feel drunk now.
- burnshade2 from Boston, North Attleboro, Canto, Massachusetts on 1Dec2006

tingy tangy piano thangy
ooo funky little intro here. lol
love the piano tingy thang. Nice, very different. The mood gets me smiling right way. There doesn't seem to be a melody here. Needs work. Good rhythm feel.
- TiffJimber from San Diego, California on 30Nov2006

interesting (good interesting :)
absolutely love the vibe...

like the english trash mouth vibe

Really enjoy the "loungey" take on this, and it's easy to still kind of get a sense of punk. Cool. Not easy to do.

Ok, off the intro, i feel like i'd like to hear you singing at about 15 seconds instead of 31 seconds.

The voice goes out of town quite a bit, though, i'm not really a huge stickler for perfection there if there's a good emotion, which there is... it's just i think a couple of places like right around 2:50 for example, the voice goes out a little too far... just a bit. Nice arrangement, and I really like the sound choices and the recording all the way around. Good mix to boot. Good, but i'd like to hear the vocal zero'd in a just a little more.
- willybarber from Portland, Oregon on 30Nov2006

mental-a-go-go
great rythmn, nice sounds, different instrumentation...have you ever heard of blur by any chance...they are a good band who sound a lot like you....
- andystradling from Frome, Somerset, United Kingdom on 30Nov2006

Has potential
Everythings kind of jarring, feels like it's supposed to be, but then the vocal fights it a little and makes it disjointed. I like the fun mood, though.
- herva from Siloam Springs, Arkansas on 29Nov2006

Unique sound
Oh, my, this is british pop! Sounds a lot like Blur and a bit like Madness, I think.
I really like the that there are so many instruments, it makes the song interesting. And it definetely has lots of hooks.
The vocals are a bit out of tune sometimes, but I don´t think that´s a problem, it goes with the mood of the song.
Carry on, you lot!
- peppyvoice from Stockholm, Sweden on 29Nov2006

I'm just telling lies, but you can't see it i..
This song sound musically a lot like children's music. That guitar and the horns are the main reasons for that. Bass does a good job and keeps the song moving forward. Organ in the end is catchy and it works as a fine finale for the song.

Vocalist sounds to be a bit off key here, maybe alcohol has something to do with it. It would seem fitting because of the sarcastic and bitter lyrics.
- jimbow4 from Lohja, Uusimaa, Finland on 28Nov2006

woah country with that
what instruments are there theres a lot of them. drum, shakers, piano, and more! its alright piece of music
- Phildg23 from San Diego, Arizona, Philippines on 28Nov2006

In no uncertain terms I DONT LIKE THIS SONG
More is less? NO!

Sounds a lot like Jagger on acid.

I'm not sure what decade this song was produced within, but it would have done well as a theme for a game show in 1958 perhaps.
- RJHampton from Las Vegas, Nevada on 27Nov2006

Catchy and unique
This was superb. You have that Libertines vibe. Playful, great vocals and feeling. And that guitarr riff is very catchy. You have some weird sounds on there that gives the song an unique mood. Lovely chords. This will remain on my playlist for some time!
- onesadhorse from , Sweden on 27Nov2006

Original
Original sound. Verses need to grab your attention a bit more. Good Chorus. Maybe double the vocals on the chorus to make the melody more dominant.
- LukeDLV from Provo, Utah on 26Nov2006

catchy intro!
Wow song starts very nicely, and is very catchy vocals are nice as well, its a very catchy song and i can definetly see it in a movie. The hook draws me in, and the mood is very happy. The melody is decent it could be a little bit catchier but its ok because of the mood.
- Bluffmusic from South Salem, New York on 25Nov2006

in your eyes dont leave..
i suppose if your a drunk college kid tripping on pcp lsd while dancing with gay hookers you would enjoy this song. For a moment it made me feel good, i then realized im sitting too close to lead paint.
- Chi_Wiz from Spring Grove, Illinois on 24Nov2006

Happy moment!
It was good to hear this tune even if i hate the recording. It's a good song and a cool vocal.
Skip the synth bass next time-it ruins the feel. But more important is the careless slacker mood wisch i apreciate a lot!
Keap it up but put a dime in therecordings..............:)

Regards:Jesper
- jesperdeluxe from Stockholm, Sweden on 24Nov2006

sid sings
Production not so great. The singer remindes me of Sid vicious. The mood is really poppy and up beat it's enjoyable. It goes on a little long though. Coming to an elevator near you.
- Ophmail from Unspecified on 24Nov2006

I like the surprises
I love the fact that you've added tons of instruments. The vocals sound a ton like XTC's Colin Moulding, and they need a bit more energy. A bit more in the hook department would be good. But MAN! all of those instruments are arranged so well. Very good.
- jhmusicman12 from Peachtree City, Georgia on 22Nov2006

Lo-fi Bedroom Rock
This is one of those ramshackle bedroom recordings that has all kinds of weird noises you won't normally hear on records, lo-fi fun with fake drums and such. when it started out I thought it might be like a children's song or something, but when the vox came in it was turned on it's head, I really like the vocals. There's something about the delivery, almost drunken, Pete Dougherty-esque, maybe? and the lyrics, though they're simple and the rhyme scheme is basic, still kind of work for me. I can't explain why I ended up liking this track. The chorus elevates in a nice way, which is part of what makes it a stong arrangement.
- room206 from Los Angeles, California on 20Nov2006

cute brit pop
Sounds like a wacky Blur tune... The vocals are okay, could use some help at certain points in the song. Cute song though, definitely a lot going on in the arrangement. A cute, pop song for sure. The lyrics are sweet too. Catchy beat.
- TheSnakebites from Seattle, Washington on 16Nov2006

huh
Nice lyrics. the vocals could be stronger. Some well used cliches in this song. Love the melody of this song. The hook is okay too. the mood is okay. The mood could be better...if stronger vocals were in use here. good luck
- TaylorSteele from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 16Nov2006

Rad Rhythm
Those beats are awesome! This reminds me of a sweet 80's dancable party song! Yeah!

I think the mix could be a bit smoother and the high-end could be toned down a bit so the high-hat sample isn't as sharp.

Great melody and playfulness, which I like. Very nice.
- ghostrockit from New York on 15Nov2006

Great fun..........
Really fun intro. The recording doesn't really do the song justice, but looking past that...this is a fun song.

The bass line is fittingly in the groove and the percussion/drum style being played keeps the song upbeat. The guitar parts are catchy with a good hook. The horns (not sure if they're synth)...either way, they add a nice touch.

The lead vocals are fun, too. Not to overuse the word 'fun'...but that really puts the song in perspective. This would be a hit when played in a live setting--happy mood. The lead vox ‘british’ (?) accent are a plus, too--unique.

The melody combined with the lyrical hook is catchy and the lyrics are non-committal--fitting for the mood of the song.

That guitar hook is a keeper. Bass--great. Memorable song!
I'd suggest to get a recording done that features all the instrumentation and the arrangements...with a good hot mix. Creative writing here.
Good luck.
- MsPaige from Portland, Oregon on 13Nov2006

needs more substance
has a cool, chilled vibe but i find it to be lacking overall. may be a fault of the production, but the problem is probably deeper than that.
- svfband from South Africa on 13Nov2006

British Cabaret
Hook- Nice touch with the xzylophone
Melody- Nice melody goin on here and the song doesnt take itself too seriously
Mood- Bouncy Cabaret with the singers slight out of tune english accent
- Cleamon from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada on 12Nov2006

Great Intro!
Vocals: Very AUSTIN POWERS of you! Original...not a smooth vocal performance by any means, but it wasn't meant to be.

Melody: This is just FUN! Period. Anyway you look at it. This has great progressions and a nice hook. The bass rocks!

Lyrics: Again...fun! very well written. This has a gret mood and melody.

Production: A+++ - Perfectly clear. Everything is where it should be. Love the effect on the drums.

GOOD JOB GUYS!!
- greascalemusic from Knoxville, Tennessee on 11Nov2006

Eccentric and Fun
Interesting percussive pallette here. Loopy, quirky vocal and mix. I liked the British eccentricities. Almost a Motown rhythm under the colorful vocal. I liked this one for its humor and original take on a pop song.
- RichardFilaccio from Yreka, California on 10Nov2006

special
Until the vocal came in I thought Oh my God, I'm going to have to slate this! I admit I don't really understand the backing - it must be intentional - the dated sounds, because the drum track is great and a lot of the incidental stuff is perfect.

But it the vocals / lyrics / hammond combo, funny, creative and enjoyable...
- JimPearson from North Of England, United Kingdom on 10Nov2006

I like the hook
Takes way too long for the vox to start...I like the hook though...
I think the vocs are a little sloppy and pitchy, but I really do like the hook...
- ElyseMusic from Valley Village, California on 9Nov2006

Ha ha great!
I like the bells you guys are playing its diffenitly a feel good mood I like the accent in the vocals...I would try not to hit so many sour notes
- fatcityreprise from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 8Nov2006

OOchi Goochi goo!
Monkey music! The first 33 seconds made me grab a banana and shake it like a conductor baton. When the lyrics started I decided to pour a double shot of whiskey.
- 12GaugeStrings from Denton, Texas on 6Nov2006

Madness goes Motown
Title pretty much sums it up. This is really fun stuff. Production and recording are excellent with nice keyboard touches. The heavy british accent is perfect for this genre. Steady drum beat and bass drive the song nicely along. I like it..good job!
- spollk from Seattle, Washington on 4Nov2006

Cool groove ~!
I love the way the song starts, it's a very funky groove. It could stand to lose the little vibraphone bit though. It needs to be built up with some horns in the first verse and onwards, it is very static.
- brittykitty7 from Unspecified on 3Nov2006

Not your typical tune ... but I dig it
Odd country rock guitar combined with peppy horns. Drums sound a bit too low-fi. Singers has a particulary good energy about his vocals. Pretty unique peppy, quirky, goofy, poppy mood ... whatever that means.
- Emoticon_Artist from Louisville, Kentucky on 3Nov2006

clapping
you have my attention with the clapping.. I love it.. nice tremelo guitar going on..

is this david bowie? wow.. you sound like him,.. I like it.. really like it..
this song is fun!

nice hook.. cause I.. I know your telling eyes.. cute..

Happy Mood!

Good Luck!
- OO@724982~BLINDSWITCH from New York on 2Nov2006

parklife
this track has really got something - it took me a little while to get into it - it's got a pretty basic & quite rough edge to it
the lyrics are very good, simple as that - they're well thought out & even though the singer clearly can't sing a note i was hooked
the vocals whilst not that tuneful reminded me of phil daniels vocals on blurs 'parklife' - after hearing dozens of pretentious affected american singers in the last week or so , i really enjoyed the vocals - nice one!
overall i though this song worked well & the chorus was very catchy - definitely worth a second listen!
- deltaskelter from Ashford, Kent, United Kingdom on 30Oct2006

good work
sweet ass sound here so far. love the rhythm and the effect on the drums. the singer has a very punk sound - but this isnt a punk song, interesting. i like the sound of this one - good work
- sergiusgregory from Homer, Alaska on 30Oct2006

Happy feeling
Great beat. It sounds like Primal Scream! Great all round feeling. I, personally, would like loads of backing vocals to make it more sing a long. I'm a fan of this song. Fun Stuff
- dummycrusher from Paris, Ile De France, France on 30Oct2006

TOO MUCH TO BEAR

From me To U
I guess they saved the best for last nice melody work the vocals and your mix drowing the vocals got a chance with a better mix
- smithcbuzzin from San Leandro, California on 31Jul2007

ABBA's Back! (That's good.)
Your song reminds me of one of the greatest groups in the world, during it's time: ABBA. Very nice overall. Good harmonizing.
- n6tchm0 from Central, Florida on 31Jul2007

We Are So Happy
Lush Vocals, Sprikled with Aynth Enthused Pop Conjectures that Mix and Mingle off each other. A Great Feel Good Dance Track that lends itself to Contemporarys such Kylie Minogue, Madonna and Gwen Stefani. The Arrangements are Marvelous with a condensed montage of Instrumental Voicings. Could be a Dance Production Number for Broadway or Las Vegas.

Extremely Professional with the intention of wrapping itself around the listeners earlobes. Hypnotic and Entrancing with all the elements of a Hit Song wanting to be heard.

Thanks for the Listen. A Marvelous Dance Track.

www.RAINSWEEP.com
- rainsweep from Fremont, California on 28Jul2007

Not really dance
This song isn't really dance but has a nice hawaiin type of sound. It reminds me of lying on a tropical beach during the summer while girls wearing palm fronds and coconuts serve me drinks. The lyrics sort of sound like they are being said in a foreign language like hawaiin, phillapean or something like that. This song has a nice mood and is original. This song makes you think of tropical islands. A beautiful vision thanks to a beautiful sounding track. Thanks for making such a nice song. The weird thing is, I don't even listen to dance. I listen to rap and hip-hop so that means you have a rap/hip-hop fan for a dance song.
- Odessey from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on 25Jun2007

Cat-on-the-piano
Bit like Madonna gone wrong. Track doesn't gel with Vocals. It could work, but it needs to be balanced harmonially, and the production also needs to be considered.
- agiagu from Sydney, Nsw, Australia on 23Jun2007

Beat is Kind of Blah
The Beat is kind of same old same old not something that i would jump up to and remember!
- nhcollegechic from Nashua, New Hampshire on 20Jun2007

Nice and catchy
Different. Sounds like a mix of old 70s disco with new funky house. vocals sound very old fashioned but i think it works well with the style. Could easily hear on commercial radio. very well done. not like anything i have heard b4. kinda bringin the old into the new. nice.
- project_weekend from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia on 19Jun2007

vocals fit the song...
The intro is messy and a little confusing...But I think it pulled together a little better as it got going...The vocals work for the style of song...I wanted a little bit more structure in the song as I was listening...
- kelseywheadon from Alpine, Utah on 11Jun2007

Sweet
This tune sounds professional, but it's a little too cheesy for my taste. Reminds me on one of those french children songs I've heard once. I'm sure kids would love this tune. It's happy and sweet.

Outro is cut off in a weird way...not sure if this intentional. But I would fix that before you put that on a demo tape.

Good luck!
- Pixelfrog from Novato, California on 7Jun2007

Euro Pop
Catchy little tune. This is not the usual genre I prefer, but I will be as objective as possible.

The lead vocals and chorus vocals seem well balanced and suited to one another. Production work is well done in that everything is synced up nicely.
- YoungTragik from Albuquerque, New Mexico on 5Jun2007

my ears said
song intro had good beat my ears said let tune in. Vocals had good tone and went with beat and melody in song. Yes people will be dancing to this song on radio soon
- songmanmel from Gap, Pennsylvania on 4Jun2007

Circus sound at first
This sounds like a merry-go-round at first. This is a dynamic composition. I like this even though normally I would not go for this kind.

The production is professional, and the balance is very nice. I was surprized to find how good this was. Some of the words are not too clear.

I like the way the vocal harmony parts were mixed in, though they were not too clear. One could not expect for the harmony parts to be very clear anyway. Nice diminuendo near the end. This was a real plus. Thanks.
- Claytonwright from Richmond, Virginia on 29May2007

okay
Wow, so much going on. Like 2 differnet tracks in each ear. Well, the beat is nice and cool, ki9nda been done, but I like what you did with the chrous, the male-female harmony panned left and right. Good instrument harmony, but I really don't like it over all, it's just done properly, so I can't say anything lol
Keep at it
- Ilikethesounds from Canada on 28May2007

hmmm
not bad. Very Kylie. Good sounds and produced well. This is a Sydney Madi Gras hit for sure. Good stuff.
- brandonodonnell from Unspecified on 23May2007

Review
This song has a great feel and melody to it. the arrangement of the song is great. The production and mix of the song has an excellent sound. Great Song!!!
- Quattro06 from Sydney, Australia on 21May2007

pop/ dance
this track is a bit to poppy for my personal liking but i can see a lot of people liking it the vocals have been well recorded and work well with the overall track feel
- vibe06 from Gateshead, England, United Kingdom on 17May2007

oh man
this is fuckin wicked, i hope u don't take this as an offense, but the ladies voice is so cheeze and funny but the thing is, it sounds like it's done on purpose and i'm serious when i say that i really really like this, the instruments are pretty ill too, nu disco?
seriously this is a dam good feel good song and i'd love to wake up to this song after a night of mad drinking
ace of base influence?
- lassowp from Canada on 11May2007

sorry nice production but im not feeling it.
Yea i can see alot of works gone into it and the productions good, but it just sounds like cheap pop music, and not to catchy either. Would sound good on eurovision song contest, i also just heard where you got that bongo from "spiller"
- winstonuk from Sydney, Nsw, Australia on 6May2007

Nice sound
Nice good house feel. The vocals were not my favorite but a lot better than the song your competing against. A nice catchy melody make this track a winner.
- AttackFlamingo from Huntington, West Virginia on 5May2007

okay
a really good feel to it ,i think u should com down on the strings in the opening, vocals sound pretty good, the mood of the song is definty more pop than dance but close, the production wasnt bad keep up the good work
- leonsurette from Unspecified on 5May2007

- UNKNOWNELEMENTZ from Regensburg / Bavaria, Bavaria, Germany on 3May2007

Music Offkey?
When the production opened it sounded like the programming was off key. Unfortunately, the vocals didn't pair up well with the music octive. I would love to hear the vocals (possibily dropping the male section) with entirely different music
- Haightstreet from San Francisco, California on 3May2007

70's disco?
Nice idea but try mixing it again and better. is there a kick or something? I can't hear it. You could work on the voice also.
- djcre8or from Bucharest, Romania on 30Apr2007

BEARING UP

drink drink and then drink some more
not much to say as far as the music is concerned. A pretty standard 'have a few pints at the local pub' song - not a bad thing. Reminds me of the good old 'football's coming home', I guess that's the intention. Here's to the closing time....huh? it's repealed? cheers!
- mellowonline from Heidelberg, Germany on 6Feb2007

review
Something sounds off. Is this the new age sex pistols. The drums are and melody are off. and the vocals are not in tune with one another. work harder
- Peddlers from Brooklyn, New York on 22Jan2007

a man.
Let me start by saying this song should be much shorter. The Chuck Berry style solo needs work. I hear some mic pops throughout the song. This song is intentionally lighthearted, so, I feel silly trying to seriously criticize it. I'll just say it sounds like some chaps having a good time and it's a pretty catchy tune.
- Allen_White from Austin, Texas on 22Jan2007

good
good feel to it right off the bat. assured, colorful british vocal. mix is not that good, vocal is too up front but the chorus with the doubled vocals are good. it sounds like a bunch of people singing along with the chorus while holding up pints in the local pub. think ian dury and the blockheads. fun song, very good job, lots of fun. lyrics are fun along with the melody.
- mudelle from Brooklyn, New York on 22Jan2007

"Monkees" on drugs
We had a good time with this one, didn't we boys? Sounds fun... play a lil music, drink a bunch of beer, turn on the recorder...

Reminds me of a friend of mine from Germany... he would love this. He would buy your cd, and a 12 pack...

Musically, everything sounds appropriately placed but I'm betting there are no Juliard grads in your lil group of minstrals... ok, I'm being too cynical. Bottom line is, my wife is bitchin at me as I write this and I wish I was there with you "blokes" bangin on a strat and getting sloppy drunk.

CARRY ON, MY CRACKERS !!!
- TickPop from Clermont, Georgia on 18Jan2007

"am i a man, does anyone care?"
The lead vocalist gives things a definite cockney vibe. It almost made me think of Pulp a little bit. It breaks into a drinking song, too -- a drinking song about bears and manliness. What a great idea! The childlike lyrics are pretty diametrically opposed to the vocal delivery, which is interesting. I like the melody, even if it isn't particularly catchy.
- TheRails from South Euclid, Ohio on 17Jan2007

OK here we go
got my attention right away. Nice beat.. clean sound all around. Cool vocals and lyrics. I dig this track.. nice work. Chorus is weird and infectious. Let's hit the pub for a pint! Cheers.
- dust_ac from Grand Rapids, Michigan on 17Jan2007

kids show
if you clean up the lyrics it would be great for a kid program

the backing vocals make it sound like "everybody must get stoned"

it reminds me of i used to love her but had to kill her how sick lyrics make you feel strange with a happy melody line

Never Mind the Bollocks
Great post punk pop rant with Sex Pistols/Billy Braggesque singer. Low fi production works great as do the semi-nonsensical lyrics and atonal backup singing. Could be a lost pistols tune. I was hoping for a bit more song structure/buildup to keep the energy high, but a splendid time was had by all. Well done lads!
- stevegarvey from Portland, Oregon on 15Jan2007

Fun Chorus
The intro reminds me a bit of "The Stokes" or "Jet". The intrumentals are good and have that bar-fun filled sound. The lyrics are very simple, but I'm not sure if you are going that way or not? The chorus is sing-a-long and fun to listen to and tap your feet to.
- kgirl_rocks from New York on 15Jan2007

drunk?
ooh somethings off in the rhythm straight away. the timing really isnt great. as soon as you hear the lyrics you stop taking the song too seriously for obvious reasons! the melody is nothing special .. very normal, not great note choices. the lyrics are very fun .. interesting, keeps you wanting to listen despite the flat vocals (sorry bro, but they are!) good play on words. sounds like some englishmen who've had a few pints. like the production in the chorus. the glass sounds reiterates my last point. obviously this is a song thats not meant to be taken too seriously .. the guitars support the lyric well. its hard to differentiate a melody because the vocal is so lazy .. not really caring it if hits or not. like the vocal lyrics, the melody is like a pub song, any drunken lout could sing it. so if this is what you're going for you got there!
- ooosarahooo from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 15Jan2007

Bear Hug
This song has a fairly peculiar open as the singer croons in a deep punkish british accent whether he's a man or a bear and if anyone cares?

I like the reference to Zacariah during the drunken singalong chorus.

This song is fun. It's hard to take it too serious with its bear theme. Somehow I think this would really work well in a movie intro. It's got a good upbeat feel.

At first I thought this song was rediculous but it really won me over by midway through. It's a feel good song.

I think the last verse and chorus are redundant though....It could have stopped at about 2 min. 30 sec before the last verse and fadeout chorus. I liked the fade out...Honestly I would just cut out the last verse using a wave editor and then have the last chorus play twice fading out on the second one like it does now. It's one of those songs that would be most effective being less than 3 minutes long.

the mix for this song could be a little better...the music is cool...vocals are alright a little too loud in the mix....but all in all this is a good song

cool
cool vocals and stuff but the vocals are the only thing that stands out i like the lyrics and melody just wish i coule hear more of everything else

Strange pop song.
This song sounds a bit sterotyped to my ears and remind me a to some nofx songs with less appeal.
I don't like so much this kind of pop-rock.
The vocal is out of pitch in some parts and have a monotonus trend during all the song.
The arrangement is ripetitive and gaunt.
This band could do a better work
the next time !
- nauseatrip from Italy on 3Jan2007

cool and original
punky stabby guitars with a London cockney accent. I quite like the attitiude annd originality of this. It is a bit old school punk and a bit football chant singalong. Itefinitley stands out at original unlike so much of the other stuff on thGarageband. I am gald to hear something that isn't tryring to be Snow -Play or some other wet 'alternative' Air Supply takeoff. I like the lyrics 'and I a man or am I a bear'. Nioce. This would be fun live. I can see it on the radio.
- BSF from London, England, United Kingdom on 30Dec2006

rockin
different. the lead vocal is pretty good. bloody good. sounds like a good ol' drinkin tune. the mix sounds good, rough but i think that's what their hoping for.
- adimacale from Vineland, New Jersey on 24Dec2006

a drinking song
this song sounds like it was written and recorded in a british pub by a bunch of drunk blokes. which is to say that it is jubilant, incoherent, well-meaning, and more than slightly annoying. true to the point of the song, the vocals are not in tune, the instrumentation is loose and relaxed. it would all work, if the melody were more engaging and the feel more energetic. a noble effort. but it doesn't quite work.
- AnnDriscoll from Unspecified on 18Dec2006

LOL, special song
dude, no offence, but it sounds like a gang of friends singing together in a pub, but in the case that that is not what you were going for, i'd invest a bit more in the mix and smooth out the vocal edges.

p.s

I'd also try a different intro.

good luck.
- vergrey from Tel-Aviv, Israel on 18Dec2006

Pass me that bottle of beer, will you?
Instantly reminding me of the Small Faces... singing in cockney is great, and the drunken backing vocals are hilarious. Although it's not really my kind of music, you've put together a very convincing pub-rock track here...
- stephubik from Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany on 15Dec2006

review...
The beat works well from the start

Great lyric content, catchy vocals and great sing-along chorus.

I live the vocal attitude...

I'd suggest bringing the music up a bit.

Catchy guitar licks and great tone.

Backups work well and make ya wanna learn the words and sing along to it

very nice job
- Rahbil from Louisville, Kentucky on 14Dec2006

Buy me a pint and sing along.
Guitar sounds a bit too distorted for this type of song. Goofy brit singing and quirky lyrics. Actually, it's pretty engaging. This is sort of a drinking song I suppose. Melody is nice.
- Emoticon_Artist from Louisville, Kentucky on 10Dec2006

Am I a man or a bear?
The voice has character thats for sure. Its up a bit too much in the mix but maybe not by much in this kind of song. I'd bring up the guitar some anyway. The chorus has a real "singing around the bar" kind of feel. Its a fun song and it definitely works on that level. Cheers.
- deanthebean from Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 9Dec2006

doctor demento candidate
goofy slightly sloshed musical hall anthem Lyrics are not quite as funny as the production. Repeating the lyrics of the first verse entire at the end was a bit of an anticlimax.
- waynemonges from Berkeley, California on 9Dec2006

SCUM

A bit of a blur
I got a real "Eels" vibe when the song opened, and then the vox comes in with an accent that falls somewhere between paul-weller and a damon albarn rip-off. That sounds harsh, but its what others are going to think when they hear this, so its worth saying.

The music is tight and quirky, and I liked it a lot, with interesting lyrics. Its just that everything made me think this could have been a blur cover-band. There's even occasional "Gorrilazs" moments.

So keep up writing the good music, but somehow you've got to stretch away from that comparison being made. Good luck fellas.

beautiful, whimsical
beautiful, blues like yet not blues at all, whats this about scum?, them guitars, nearly acoustic like make it beautiful
- nikifour from Poland on 5Jul2007

Bit Bland
This is kind of funny and misguided. SOunds like a half arsed Billy Bragg tune. I can see what you're doing, but it's not quite pulled off. There's a few problems with the production, which isn't helping. And the music itself is kind iof too bland to carry the message.
- TheJazzyTomcat from Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire, United Kingdom on 1Jul2007

nice beat. your voice kinda reminds me of smashmouth. i dont think your voice is great. it would probably be better for punk music. but thats just my opinion.
- TRoc from El Cajon, California on 30Jun2007

Nice style
I like the vocalist style with the music. Pretty original. I would try adding some effect to enrich the vocals rather than flatten them in the mix. the guitars are very nice.
- XiomaraMedina from New York on 29Jun2007

Red Hot Beats
This song has a good rhythm to it. The lyrics fit the beat of the song very well. It reminds me a bit of Red Hot Chili Peppers. The mix is pretty good too, as I can hear everything just fine and nothing seems to be overpowering any other aspect of the song. Well done.
- mtskogs from Norwalk, Ohio on 28Jun2007

Jolty...
I liked the creative risks this band took in it instrumentation, speciafically the rythm section. Unfortunately, I felt the groove didn't really work. It felt to disjointed for me.

Aside from the jolty rythm of the song, I felt the other instruments are sounded great. Also, to vocals worked well for the song. Interesting lyrics coupled with a unique voice are always a good thing.

Overall, this was a pretty cool song that just fell short of spectacular for me.
- ReedKD from Santa Cruz, California on 26Jun2007

Guinness
I liked the melody. And I like the British accent, comes through thick.

The guitar is really simple, but it works.

Nice length, ended when it felt like it should.

Good luck.

fun potential for great music
Great feel to this song - the guitars make it feel like it's sort of 'creeping' around the listener. The lyrics are fun and I appreciate the vocal quality in this song - it's a great fit. Catchy melody in the verse.

I could use a little more predictibility and repitition in the chorus - I feel like this song needs a section that I'm just waiting to get back to - a hot chorus payoff would be great! There's not much to 'hook' the listener in at the chorus - it's well performed but not quite as 'interesting' and concise as it could be. Try narrowing the phrase, singing it in a unique and catchy way, and repeating it more.

The guitar solo is a fun little 'diddy' - and the song is a great length! I see a lot of potential here - and the current chorus could make a great bridge or lead-in to something... this song just never reaches the heights I wuld have anticipated at the beginning - mainly by having some sort of catchy chorus that the listener can sing along with by the end of the song.

I hope these thoughts are helpful - I really like what you've got here so far!
- schraderjasonm from Ann Arbor, Michigan on 25Jun2007

nice tremoloed guitar playing major 7ths, brings creedence or orange juice (what presence)to mind. cool acoustic shuffle. sounds american/slacker until the cockney accent kicks in. nice to hear a melodia in the chorus and harmonica somewhere too. sounds like they could be part of the brighton scene.
- jondee from United Kingdom on 25Jun2007

Funkey tune!
Great feel to this music, got a pulp and Blur style. Simple yet original lyrics. would listen again. Like The subtle guitar and gentle drums keeping it all together. Cool melody.
- jimmatthews from United Kingdom on 24Jun2007

Scumtastic!
Love the vocal positioning on this track - love the lyric too!

The musicianship is loose as hell, at times out of tune and the production values are pretty grim, but none of that matters when it's a good song!

Great track - would love to hear it done with a bit of Moolah!
- Bigblackbus from Los Angeles, California on 24Jun2007

review #9
I like the drums. The vocals have a very cool vintage tone. They need to be brought up at some point though. The song is good, it just needs a climax. This is a problem i see very frequently on garageband. The song is very good, but it should move into something rock like. The vocals remind me of elvis costello. Good, good.
- OtherWise from Northface, Virginia on 22Jun2007

This song is not scum
I like the lyrics and the overall feel of the song. The song could be more successful if it had a little bit more production. The structure of the song is great. A quick intro, good verse and great melody on the chorus.

The Jam is back?
I thought that Elvis Costello had been crossed with a member of the Jam...and I was excited!

This tune had some old-school Kinks vibe to it as well. The tremolo guitars were a nice effect. The harmonica also added a nice diversion. the great thing about the harmonica was the way it was mixed. Thank you for NOT slamming that in our faces, ala Bob Dylan. LOVE IT!
- Dawsonbass from Orlando, Florida on 15Jun2007

Blur wannabees
If I had never heard Blur I might think this is quite clever and innovative.

If, by some miracle, the band has never heard Blur then this is quite a good song. Otherwise it's a complete rip-off.

Production is good but the vocal is a bit weak. Pitchy.
- CorinneLucy from United Kingdom on 14Jun2007

Cool man Jandle
Vocal crawl basking in the sunlight. A nice groove that repeats with a harmonica a nice guitar jangle and a dog beside you to boot. I like it. Has that alt appeal that would sit very nicely in many a movie.
Cooooolll
- Ammp from Wellington, New Zealand on 13Jun2007

Cool sound.
The song gets going quickly, which is great. No wasted time to get into the story. The vocals are quite unique and the band needs to support them a little better. The vocalist sounds a bit naked and alone because the band isnt complementing. Maybe being a little rhythmic, especially the drummer, would help make it groove a little better and sound more natural. Overall, a cool sound, but needs a little spice.
- headrushmusic from Fresno, California on 12Jun2007

Nice accent!
Nothing like singing in a full British accent is there? A bit like Damian Alburn in his delivery, but pitchier.

Very quirky song, rather like Blur in their earlier days. The lo-fi production seems suitable, there is a grimey tone to everything, so I'm certain this artist opted for the sounds over flashy versions. Even with some of the playing a bit loose it all works together. Solid indie mix too.

Original tone: keep coming back to Alburn - this track had some of that Gorillaz vibe in the beat and very much a similar vocal approach from Blur. Cool song, rather hip. Good luck.

I think it's rather strange music and experimental. I can't reflect any other influence but the above mentioned. The vocals are moody and fits with the music. You are a true stand alone artist like non other...

first thing that impressed me was unfortunately that the final mixdown volume is extremely low. almost unaudible.the general mood is very 90's.female vocal is ok.very simple house piano and classic groove.let's take this as a warm up for you and give you some credit for the future

Trapped in the early 90s
This is an alright melodic opening, although I could definitely go for a more prevailant bass presence. Actually, not after I heard how corny the bassline is. This song is way behind it's time, this is early 90's crap, we dance artists have evolved past this kind of bullsh*t I thought.
- sidreynoldz from Unspecified on 9Dec2006

Soul Train
What a cute SoulTrain mix. I like the this song but it song cut now I know you don't want to hear it's cute but it is. I hear the show Sould Train too much in this groove, I'm thinking in my mind that I'm going to see dancers in a line.
- vmrdawg from Beverly Hills, California on 8Dec2006

Kylie Minogue-ish
This song totally reminds me of something Kylie Minogue would do. It has that 80's mood and melody. That being said, the chorus and vocals were pretty cool. I just think it's a little too 80's for me. Good production, though.
- AMPience from Los Angeles, California on 4Dec2006

Peppie, Cheery Dance Trank
Happy groovy with a peppie bass line... very cheery. Vocalist has a soothing voice and lyrics are well written. Backing track is well produced (I like all the sequence work that bounces just beneath the surface. The break at the 2:10 brings the bass line back to the forfront for a bit...setting perfect stage for the reintroduction of the vocals. This track has potential for some awesome remixes. This is typically not the kind of "dance" music I like, but I can definantely hear that it would have many applications (movie scores, festival themes, the title track to a Disney full-feature animated movie, and circuit parties.)

There is really no room for improvement....a perfect original mix.
- Keister from Austin, Texas on 4Dec2006

Nice and groovy
Very nice and punchy intro, groovy!
Vocal just came in, feels kind of out of place, sticks out too much, nice melody. Vocal done very nicely, the only flaw i find is that vocal doesn't sit in the mix too well. Chorus very catchy, over all this song has great potential, with few little fixes it could get on whole new level.
Good luck with your work.
- lyubm from Portland, Oregon on 3Dec2006

Make me feel it
Vocals need to be more melodic. The words in the chorus are a bit cliche so performance is really important. More sincerity would really go along way in improving the impact of the vocals.
Personally, I found the high pitched flute? sound to be very annoying. The track generally seemed out of sync rhythmically which is obviously key for a dance track. I would try a less muted more resonant sounding bass and adding guitar or xylophone, stell drums?... something to help understand the melody a bit better.
- Lofitrip from Los Angeles, California on 28Nov2006

80s esque
I don't like the melody too much. I think part of it is that it doesn't really fit with the harmonic elements of the song. The other thing is the strings and other sounds (apart from drums) don't seem to fit on the beat as well as they should. Your voice is kind of cool. It sounds a bit like Ace of Bass. You might try to go for a little more originality there.
- benjaminbarry from Columbus, Ohio on 27Nov2006

Buena suerte!

kinda quiet
has dee-lite style beat, sounds quite 90's, but solid. the female vocals remind me of ace of base with the accent, and it's easily singable AND identifyable because they aren't incredibly stong, per se, but enjoyable. a true sing-along within the listeners vocal reach, y'know? I work at a club and come to despise most songs, but this would be standable at repetition

Great song. Great ideas.

Overall this is a very solid track. The actual beat and accompanying parts fit each other well. The sound slection was also good. I love the baslline. Very groovy.

The vocal performance is good. It sounds a little under-produced in the mix. This might be cured by making it louder or maybe adding some compression and/or some more effect.

This is a very good track. Solid beat and the vocal performance is very solid as well. Very original.

Sounds retro
Nice beat, I like it, but it sounds like a pre-made loop to me. I'm not fond of pre-made loops, I prefer creativity. Nice basslines, though.
Melody is pretty simple but it does the trick, it goes well with the rest.

Song sounds kinda retro, like something from the 80's or early 90's. Interesting, but I prefer modern sounds.

Singing sounds quite nice, but is unbalanced with the rest of the sounds, it's mixed a bit too loud.

All-in-all, good catchy retro-sounding song with nice mood. Could be better, though.

THE PRICE OF PEACE

Tricky
It opens like some kind of breezey dance tune and then after listening to the lyrics a bit one realizes that there's supposed to be more going on.
Perhaps you're being TOO CUTE, or maybe the melody simply clashes with the lyrics, but it just doesn't work for me.
Vocals are okay, though hard for my Midwestern USA ears to to make out a few of the lines.
Production is full and appropriately bouncey, but could use a few more tricks in the late goings on.
- Tafilaw from Burbank, California on 13Mar2007

The lyrics to this song are very powerful, very nice. The melody is ok, but this tune sounds very electronic and a little over-produced.

Original catchy fun
I don't think this song is really folk rock but I don't suppose that matters. Cheap sounding backing track is imaginative especially the the juddery bit. I thought the vocals were gonna be a bit annoying as they lack energy and are a bit whiney but they grew on me as the song progressed and I think they are key to the sound. The chorus is really good and catchy. Good melodies on vocals and keyboard. Maybe a bit of a middle 8 would help break the song up as it can get a bit repetitive. Lyrics are good. Don't hear that much music that is this original on GB, good work I'm gonna see what else is on your page. *****

Off the wall - radio friendly
OK, let's go at this in reverse. The fade out is good .... leaves me wanting that bit more. The change in drum kit [cymbals etc] in verse 3 works nicely. By end of verse 2 I did think it might need a bridge 'cos the melody starts to repeat too much. Hoever, on my 3rd listen I'm not so sure as it stands there OK. The lyrics throughout are very, very good. They have that hook element in the key area, the Chorus. I'm not sure it's folk rock ... there is definitely that off-the-wall 'alt' feel about it. Your voice has a Richard Ashcroft quality siiting in there. The phrasing of the lyrics is very good - which is half the reason why the lyrics work well. I wouldn't worry about the chord structure? The melody works fine with this style of delivery .... and you do have a very good 'interesting' sound going on here. Top marks - I love it.
- GrahamLockyer from Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 9Feb2007

This is really cool
This is in the wrong genre cos damn it sounds like early blur material. I love it the little keyboard that sounds like gizmo from the gremlins is so sweet. The lyrics are just up my street. The beat is so on the money and I would never have thought of putting in with this tune. Absolutely awesome.

a mix of coldplay and radiohead without the r..
I am all for peace songs, but a melody should reflect the message, and the melody for this song seems to come out from one of those kiddy programs like the teletubbies. The vocals are also out of tune in many places. There is nothing new in the chord structure to get excited about.
- leonardodsh from Charlotte, North Carolina on 26Jan2007

Good, even if off-key
Like the beat/melody. Vocal off-key a bit. Sounds like Squeeze, Kinks, early punk-folk. Lyrics merit further investigation. You draw me in & make me wanna hear it again. Good job.
- hankstone from Sayville, New York on 23Jan2007

upbeat!
This is a very unique sounding tune, i love how it's almost out of tune, the chorus is really catchy. Definately a strange chord structure!
- Funktapus from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada on 20Jan2007

People will pay for their mortage and rent an..
I absoloutely love the vocals on this song. It sounds like a cross between Ian Drury and the lead singer of Frenzal Rhomb. Very cool chord progressions and backing vocals. The lyrics are really neat, they really pull you in and make you listen. I don't much like the fake drums and I think some real ones would really do this song the justice it deserves. But wicked track all around.
- ericc_reid from Unspecified on 17Jan2007

Stronger melody
The instrumentation is an interesting combination of a drum machine and I don't know what else to call it. The vocalist reminds me of Blur and the Gorillaz which is the same guy but whatever. I like the chord progression of the verse and the chorus and it isn't extremely predictable but sometimes gets a bit repetitive. The melody isn't as strong as anything by Blur or the Gorillaz and I think you really need a stronger melody to make your song stand out among the crowd.
- musicforinside from La Mirada, California on 11Jan2007

How do you pay for peace?
Lyrics - thought provoking I guess but not sure the lyrics match the style of music and upbeat nature of the song - it almost sounds like it's going to break into '96 tears'and the bass sounds like it's straight out of an 'OutKast' song.
Melody and Chord Structure - very repetitive verse, chorus, verse, chorus etc - I'd like to hear a different part added.
- TanyaPants from Vancouver, Canada on 7Jan2007

Nice Beat
Very catchy beat from the beginning. Poppy. Sounds overseas. Keeps your foot tapping the whole time. The arrangement of the song was well thought out. Overall a good poppy song.
- m_cerini from Deer Park, New York on 3Jan2007

Poppy
I don't really care much for this song, though it is put together well. It just doesn't seem to be my style, which makes it hard to review and critique.

The harmony is nice, as well as the lyrics when the harmony comes in.
- dermeister1331 from Dale City, Virginia on 3Jan2007

good song
I like the Gorilaz vibe. I like the lyrics with the exception of the peace line. the song seems more sarchastic than that.
- DayvYoung from Fair Oaks, California on 1Jan2007

Great ideas, and good feeling.
For me this song is very ineresting, ther's alot of "alternative" in it.
The vacal sonunds really appropiate.
Chords is a bit monotones but well made.
The lyrics really hit me !!!
A good work for a band that could do a better work.
I can see a lot of talent in these !!!
- nauseatrip from Italy on 27Dec2006

I like the theme..
People will pay is a good theme, but the (drum machine) percussion track just gets in the way of the song. The melody has that ol' 60s british sound. The keyboard has a nice aural tone. The song should be further developed with a more imaginative arrangement.
- lousiegs from Owings Mills, Maryland on 27Dec2006

Brilliant.
Simple, cool, quirky and effective. Even though teh vocals are off and not exactly classicly trained, that is why i like it. It's genuine and real and reminds me of Billy Bragg. The lyrics are strong and the structure works fine with the melody. Love the sample underneath too.
- Will_Hawkins from Brooklyn, New York on 26Dec2006

Needs work
It seems there is some Kinks/Ray Davies influence here. That makes me think that the song has some potential. But I'm not partial to the electronic drums, nor to the flat singing (possibly deliberate) that comes in the chorus. The keyboard parts work fairly well though. I'd say try again.
- JoelShawn from Japan on 26Dec2006

Got a retro feel
Oh this reminds me of someone but I cant think who it is .. great little songwriting effort .. got that english 80s pop sound.. happy feel good.
- AlyC from Nelson, Nelson Province, New Zealand on 25Dec2006

english rock feel
very 60's - cool. good driving beat, nice harmonies. a different approach to lyrics. good voice. the chord structure is average but the verse changes to the chorus are very upbeat. the keyboard has a similar feel throughout the song but nice overtones added.
- davey_hubey from Nyc, New York on 25Dec2006

What Key Is This In?
Here are your requested comments:

LYRICS are simple, easy to follow, maybe too easy, becasue I think we all get the idea as its presented during the first verse. Maybe mix it up a little to keep us wondering. Listeners tend to drift away if they can see the next line coming.

MELODY is excellent. Nice mixing of CHORD STRUCTURE flowing from minor to major delivering a strong hook.

The ARRANGEMENT is quirky, but not at all folk rock. It's all synth with only the voice (oh, what a voice!) to provide the humanity. (Oh, the humanity!)

Alright, now onto the Voice. Some will love it sounding deliciously off key, but consider that an American weakness for all things Anglo. The truth is, this is poorly sung. Almost on purpose, I suspect. As much as the song needs a human touch, less "character" would serve the song better.

Overall, a good, strong tune creatively MODified from a Kinks sound to a less retro 1980s vibe, but not a folk-rock leg to stand on. My advice: sing reasonably on key and place this song in a more appropriate category.

Hope this helps.
:o)
- spoonido from Sierra Madre, California on 21Dec2006

Folk Accent
Very sleek satirical commentary. I really appreciate this kind of lyrical artistry. The melody is quite dramatic and I think the instrument interplay was well done for the most part. I am a sucker however for some electric guitar, think about it for the future. Very cool song.

the lo fi recording works here

Smile to my Face.
Lyrics- I like 'em -their easy to latch onto. Somewhat topical- kind of thrown together nonchalantly but it works.
Melody- Cool sounds like some obscure college radio melody that sticks like glue but not destined for the commercial world ('cept by accident.)
Chord structure- I simple but I like the way it's put together. The arrangement work in conjunction to hold it up even more.
Quirky tune- Yeah I like oddball songs- anything to transport you to a different place without leaving the room. Wierd/Fun tune.
- ChuckTown from Whittier, California on 18Dec2006

People won't pay
The artist asked for comments on the lyrics, melody and the song's chord structure.

The lyrics were weak because the lead line..."People will pay" was overdone. Finding another avenue to say the same thing would be more desireable.

When the melody dipped to the minor chord, that pleased me.

I understand the lyrics have political and social importance and I usually enjoy a good protest song but this one falls short for me. I'm certain this songwriter has better songs in his catalog. Keep writing. The chorus was actually a very pleasant changeup.
Good luck to you!
- TXsweetchild from San Antonio, Texas on 17Dec2006

price of peace review
This song has a very different syncopation to it that starts with the drum beat used and goes well with the lyrical style of the vocalist. The melody was a nice soothing style of organ sounds that blended well with arrangement. At some points in the song I heard a off-key sounding synth-riff that threw me off a bit. Over-all I liked the lyrics, chord structure and melody. Congrats!
- michaellyzenga from Milton, West Virginia on 17Dec2006

The British are coming!
Interesting beat, not what I expected in Folk Rock. Thick British accent stands out to my country boy ears. Good song structure and a catchy chorus. Harmonies are well placed. I like the song, but genre may be a mismatch. Good work!
- CarolinaBoy from Asheville, North Carolina on 14Dec2006

If it aint stiff.......
Sounds like Wreckless Eric and thats not an influence that you hear on here very often. Reminds me of those early Stiff records rough skiffley recording sort of "bash it down - tart it up" Nick Lowe mix. I'm betting some people won't get this but i love it. If you're playing any parties you'll always find me - in the kitchen>
- andystradling from Frome, Somerset, United Kingdom on 11Dec2006

80's is alive and well
Song sounds canned. Too much use of synth. Bring the vocal to the front at least so we can hear it. Don't hide behind the instruments..A little varying of the drum track goes a long way to keeping the listener interested. I like the key change..it tweaks the ear..but get the vocals in tune..take the time for that. Very synthy as I said. Keep it up.
- johnek from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on 9Dec2006

Quirky track with some issues holding it back..
I'm not sure you can classify this as folk rock, although I'm really not sure where you'd put it. I'll say this, it certainly is unique. The instrumentation is funky with the blend of strings, organ, synth, and the dance beat creating a neat backdrop. Still, I have to be honest, I can't get past the vocals. They're always just a step off key, and start to get irritating before long. The lyrics, while adhering to the concept of what people will pay for (besides peace) don't have to keep literally repeating "People will pay for..." in almost every line of every verse. Combined with the off-key delivering, this aspect makes the song especially hard to listen to by the 3 minute mark.

This was an interesting concept, with creative instrumentation and arrangement, but the vocals were weak and eventually grating.
- DCsavi from Dalton, Massachusetts on 8Dec2006

LOVE AINT BIG ENOUGH FOR 3

Mood-evoking
This is a perfect song to listen to in your room on a cloudy day. The vocals, while in the Eels vein, suffer from a lack of being in tune at times. This is the track's only glaring weakness. Production is decent; I enjoy the counterpoint of repetitive piano with picked electric, and the strings are a nice touch: subtle and not cheesy.
- Silversafe from Portland, Oregon on 9Mar2007

Man Chowder
Very commercial sounding; movie soundtrackish. Vox reminds me a bit of the Kinks.
The piano lends a tasty touch to this song. It seems to be very well arranged and mixed. Performed excellently.
The melody is melancholy and bittersweet sometimes. Great mood evoked in the performance.
A very good effort
- ZettyTwine from Lynbrook, New York on 26Feb2007

I like it...thats rare
Elton John/Beatles song, sung with a Gorillaz type vocal. The second verse builds well. The addition of the sparkly guitar is a nice touch. The more the song goes on, the more I like it. I really like the chorus line..."room for both of you but not for me" Strong melodies too. It would really benefit from some harmonies, especially on the chorus. The entire song builds well from start to finish. Excellent, very unique and intruiging song...just needs a little polish and some finishing touches.
- m77 from Flagstaff, Arizona on 15Jan2007

Maybe a little floyd in the voice
Not really my cup of tea but hey I'm a blues guy cool lyrics well mixed sad crackle on the voice fits nicely with the mood.
- spazman47 from Oxford, Ohio on 8Jan2007

La la la song
Lyrics are fine, voice is a mixture of Frank Zappa, Bob Dylan and Neil Young all three no great singers but successful. Voice should be a little more full in the mix. Melody is nice but not really sweeping. Solo guitar is not very ambitiouus.
- Jailbreak from Germany on 5Jan2007

A Step Away from GREATNESS!
Beautiful piano intro, quite the throwback in the performance aspect!

I liked the frontman's accent, kind of Pink Floydish (Huge Fan)!

I felt like the music didn't fit the lyrics correctly in spots, but I can deal with that for an obviously original piece like this!

The lyrics are rich, could've done without the terrible guitar solo, I know some horrible guitarists that could've done a better job than that for you, I guess I just expected something more magical with the way things had gone up until then!

A little Beatle-esq after listening to this one for the third time...I'm still not sick of it, that's suprising and I'm impressed!

I hope you re-record this with a producer who has a good ear and a more creative guitarist, I would buy this song from you if you did!

In fact I would pay for the entire album for this single track, if my expectations were brought to fruition, it can be done!
- RustyLunchbox from Detroit, Michigan on 20Dec2006

more apathy
First thing I heard was too much back noise on the mic- pull off some. Also slightly out of key in places, but kind of endearing not offensive. Needs more bass and drums during the verses to give it Oomph. Strings came out of nowhere could do without that. GUITAR IS PROMISING. Good tone and line on that. Overall needs some work, not terribly interesting.

this is very john lennon/oasis inspired and that´s not bad at all. i like when the strings come in nice effect to the song but the singer don´t sing good enough

Feel the sadness, but hit the notes man!
Sorry, I don't know if this is what you call it: The "cockney" thing is a little charming. I don't know if I got the right English "micro" accent. Man, there are so many.

OK, but the right vocal notes do have to be hit. It saps the songs charm if the notes are flat.

Decent tone on the guitar solo.

Emotion in delivery is pretty good, you can hear a bit of sadness in "Room for both of you, but not for me."

Just happy to be here....
Ever hear of the Beatles? Because you guys sound like you are all huge Beatles fans. Not a bad thing, just VERY noticeable.

Good melody, memorable and sing-along-able. Might want to throw in a tambourine in the second verse and chorus.

The production is semi-decent. The instrumentalisation is muddy and muddled, but somehow the message gets through.

Great lryics, great song writing. Over all good song. Well done.
- SwampDonky from San Francisco Bay Area, California on 27Nov2006

Great songwriter needs vocalist
vocals are thick with originality but pitch is definitely a problem here.

The song is well written and includes all of the elements of a good song (melodic intro, catchy verse, chorus, solo, etc) and has them all in the right places, but the vocals are just too pitchy.

You know how to write songs, no question, and I recommend you keep writing but either find yourself another singer or practice for a few years and re-record the vocals when you're ready.
- ellenjonathan from North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 15Nov2006

bowie-liscious
Sounds like the beatles starting out. I love the thick dialect of the singer, sounds like Bowie. The harmonic structure is bowie-esque as well. I'd suggest a little reverb on the piano track. Maybe bring in a string pad on the second verse or bump up the drums to kick it in. There you go with the 80s string pad in at your bridge. Pretty melody on the guitar solo. "I'm not wanted here, I'm in the way" and "room for BOTH of you but not for me" are both awesome lyrics. Love the song, the style, the singer...I'd love to hear the song blow-out production wise though. I think it could be mind boggling with some super high-end production. Of course, that's easier said than done, right!? Bottom line, I GET the song and I am inspired by it's quality to want it to go all the way. BEST!
- kylepuccia from North Hollywood, California on 15Nov2006

ok song but not enough
this song has potential i guess if it had better production and singing. it is quite tuneful and has quite a poppy appeal.

nothing new or original in the tune or the lyrics at all. the guitaring is completely out of place.

Indie Lounge Music
Imagine if you went to the restaurant at the end of the universe and Damon Albarn was singing in some kind of apocalyptic indie lounge band, then you'd go someway to getting what's happenning here.

"Love ain't big enough for three, room for both of you, but not for me"

Its a psycadelic lethargic ode to lost love that deals out a heavy dose of pathos dressed up as melancholy. Original? yes, going to kill on the GB charts, maybe not.

catchy
I feel I may have heard this band before. Thr female vocalist hits me as Belinda Carlysle of the Go Go's. The band here only want's comments on the chorus. I think they are selling themselves short by not opening themselves up to comments on other aspects because they are an interesting band. Anyway, yes, the chorus is catchy and is very sweet. I know you don't want comments on the production, so I won't bother telling you to go in the studio and bring this to another level--Pete Beriwck
- peteberwick from Chicago, Illinois on 6Dec2006

What?
Is that a shaker? Speaker fuzz? Whatever it is, cut it out. Vocals have a real 90s brit pop feel, but go too high at certain points. For some reason it sounds like the vocals were recorded entirely separately and differently and then placed over top. They sound really crisp and clean while the rest of the track sounds really gritty and low quality. It might just be that annoying shaker sound though. For the short period of time that it's gone around 1:55 - 2:09, everything sounds 100% better. It seems like they've got the right idea with this track, they're just not yet sure how to pull it off properly.
- chrisdisregard from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on 4Dec2006

good guitar intro
good guitar intro kinda sounds like molly hachet with blondie singing. i liked the drummer sounds good. the band has a good mix and the chorus has a cool hook. i liked the change at 1:50 gave a nice touch to the song. if any changes were needed, i would have the singer, sing with more heart doesnt seem like she's trying very hard. i like to really feel the singer move me into the mood of what the band is playing. so it would'nt take much for me to give you an A on this song. just make me feel it... ANOTHER REVIEW BY AMLINGISRAD
The guitar in the intro of this song is interesting and different from what is normally heard. The vocals are off-key in many places. The singer sounds bored, but perhaps that's what you're going for. The production seems a bit messy. If this song were cleaned up it could be a lot better. The shaker in the background is a bit much. The song could be a lot more dynamic, but the shaker causes a drone that makes it difficult to tell the difference between the verses and choruses. I can sort of hear some good hooks in there, but again, they're masked by the rest of the clutter in the song. Adding more powerful drums in the chorus could really accentuate that great melody you've got going on. This song has a lot of potential, and with a few changes could be awesome.
- amlingisrad from Athens, Georgia on 29Nov2006

too much
Too much sounds from the get go here. The vocals are kinda drained out.

Get the mix together, cos the whole thing peaks on my speakers, nothing is clear.

But, the melody sounds decent and the vocals nice...

Crancardelly!
This song to me sounds like a mix of The Cranberry's, The Cardigans, and Belly. All bands that I havn't listned to for a while but did enjoy. So with all of that said, I kinda like this song. I don't know if i would call it pop punk but it is still good. Kind of has a sweetness to the rock. The song kind of has a strange catchyness to it. I don't know the chorus was nothing that special but it did stay in my head. The Guitar had a good tone and played well. The drums were steady and the bass kept the beat. The produciton and mix are not perfect but the dirtiness kind of adds to interesting feel of the song. So I guess I like it. I gotta give ya points for bringing back a sound that I havn't heard in a while.
- TheObjex from Las Vegas, Nevada on 27Nov2006

cool
ah i love that guitar bit at the start, it sounds so retro. the singer is good, but her voice stays a bit too monotone. she seems to have a voice like Sophie-Alice-Bexter. all the music is good, and they really know how to write a catchy chorus.
- AshWildsurf from Dublin City, Ireland on 27Nov2006

More rhythm
This track lacks an interesting rhythm. Most notable is the shaker thing that is going on virtually the entire track. It gets a little bit annoying by the end. I would turn the levels on that shaker down. The track is also a bit noisy as well. The rhythm guitar is too dominant in the mix. This is often a problem with electric guitars so what I would do is eq some of the mid-highs out and pan it to the left or something panning another guitar part to the right. I would also experiment with taking that rhythm e-guitar out completely and just having drums (without that shaker) and voice. The other thing this track lacks is catchy riffs. I think most of that is due to the harmonic elements however. The melody itself is quite pleasant to listen to and the voice is very pleasant (the highlight of the track) but since the harmonic elements like the guitar and the shaker clash so much with the melody it takes away from all of it. I would tighten up the rhythm and switch to a cleaner e-guitar patch. Also I would take out the delay on the chorus... its just a little bit too much. Maybe a little bit (barely noticeable) would be fine but any more is just a bit cheezy sounding. Overall nice vibe though.

- xoston from Munger, Michigan on 18Nov2006

hey dudes!
sounds good, the beginning does sound a little busy and the vocals do not seem to overpower the music and seem to be drowned out, and dont 'burst' powerfully through.

In saying this, vocalist has a very nice voice, would love to hear something with a bit more energy behind her voice :D

the end of the 4th bar in the chorus unfortunately reminds me of avril lavigne for some reason.. but thats just me

very cool

Wow what a strange intro. Chimes? Thats so different for the pop punk genre. It has more of and indie rock feel. the shakers are cool for the rtyhem. The mix is a little muddy but the vocals shine through. the guitars are really muddy too. Its a cool song but not really pop punk.

Way overdriven. Try the mix again.

Vocalist seems to be holding back at times, such as the "yeah." But sometimes sounds great.

I like the lyrics in the chorus. The rest is difficult to make out. I would like to switch on to you, I can tell by your voice.

Good shaker part.

lose it...hire a real studio drummer next time...they're out there. vocals are kinda flat here and there...but it's a cool retro sounding poppy dancey new wave track...put a bit more work into it. re-record it a year down the road and you'll have a completly different tune. keep at it.
- jimmythecreep from Port Huron, Michigan on 15Nov2006

Aw, someone needs attention :)
The monotone singing grows on you a bit as the song goes. I can see a lot of girls adopting this song as their anthem. I thought the distortion was a little overwhelming at times, some of the better guitar work is drown out by it. The lyrics are catchy. Overall, well done. "Switch off and switch on to me" will be stuck in my head for a while...
- EmDub from San Francisco, California on 15Nov2006

What is going on?
What is that strange sound going on throughout the whole thing? It sounds like static and sand paper.

I really like the vocals though, and the percussion is pretty cool.

If this song had better production, this would be pretty kickin'.

Are you blonde also? :-)
Yes girl! You sound like Debbie Harry and I LOVE Debbie Harry. Actually the band sounds like early Blondie when they played live at the CBGB in '77, which is great. I love the catchy chorus: would have been a smash in that time. Nice chord structure from the guitars from what I can hear. The prod is trashy but I don't mind: adds to the punky feel of the song. GOOD! It's a 5...
- NuitSaintGeorge from Brussels, Belgium on 15Nov2006

Not digging the mix
This song had too many effects and extra things going on in it I could barley focus on the song, I don't like the reverb/echo thing that's going on with the vocals(very distracting) and there is an extra percussion thing going on(shakers maybe?) throughout about %90 of the song that is so loud in the mix of the song it drownds out everything else that is going on in the song. Now for some positives, the chorous is a quick to memory line, so I can see it getting into my head and not be able to forget it, so well done on the vocal hook. But this track needs some serious help with musical editing.
- jeremymoneyshot from Unspecified on 14Nov2006

the first word i think of when this song started......chaotic. musically chaotic. production throws all the sound out mixed all funnily. i like the lyrics, but the song is kinda sonically misbehaving. weird choice of melodies here.

I don't really dig the chorus, it doesn't grab me.. it sounds like a wannabe Avril Lavigne, which isn't a good thing.

Your voice is good, just don't be afraid to use some balls.

ARMADILLO

fromthecitybythesea
From the eighties in tight lycra they arrived to take over the planet called Earth, with their bewitching song Armadillo. What a fantastic line... ' Armadillo, Armadillo, Crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle.'... CLASSIC!!!

quality
The recording doesn't do you justice. Oh man the vocalist sucks. I think thats a compliment for a punk band. Are you singing about armadillos?

great vocals
That's personallity. I really liked the lead vocals, singing and lyrics. There was Always something going on to keep the listeners attention, including a chorus that delivers.

Performances are good by the other band members too, recording quality however is second to many. But hey, stuff was in tune and sounded good.

This would probably go over big in a bar towards the end of the night. Good stuff.

This is punk,not pop-punk
I don't like your production....
The voice is very bad. This song is similar to a lot of other punk songs.....You have to improve so much to become someone.

What the F$%^$%^?
This song so sucks! The vocals - terrrible and hopeless! sory that i'm writing it but this is so bad!!!

Boost your sound...
Song is engaging, but production is not all OK. I think that you need to apply more compression (guitar and drums in particular). However melody is very catchy, so the song results really funny.

Submission Vision of my Television?
cool intro I like the surfiness of the style. I can feel it's not very well played, both drums and guitars. Some rythme errors and innacuracies. Even some vocals are like out of tune. But the spirit of the song is quite sweet. I do like the way it's sung, except when it's a bit messy when there are more than two singing. If the production was better maybe... I'd give it a few months to make it tighter, this could become really nice. But I guess you wouldn't give a daaaaamn...

No
No. Your vision on my television..I do not like. The vocals are everywhere. This is a mess and I hate talking like this. Just fix it up alittle. The words especially. The hook...melody...chord sturucte idk...it could be good if it was good the singing and if the lyrics made some sort of sence..but i am laughing about the armadillo part because it makes absoultly no sence.

dull thud vocals
i like the lyrical content......very original. The song itself and melody are catchy and likeable. My problem is the vocalist. Kinda like a really stoned Elvis Costello. I like elvis but this guy annoys me. The song is great otherwise.

Delightfully snotty!
Overall liked this one, but this needs re-mixing/re-mastering as the instruments are a little muddy-sounding. In particular the drums have way too much reverb--At the beginning of the song, it sounded a whole lot like goose-stepping fascist soldiers on the march. Somehow, I don't think this was what the artist intended.

Vocals really reminded me of The Clash, which is never a bad thing.

Minor technical stuff aside, I enjoyed this a great deal.

ewwwwwwwwwww!

weird...
the delay on the snare drum is really super strange.

the david bowie vox are even stranger.

i feel like i know what you're going for, but you haven't quite gotten there. the guitar tone during the verses sounds a good bit too modern-ish. it sounds like you're playing through a line 6 pod or something. i would recommend possibly keeping the delay of the riff part, but dropping it on the verses.

the snare delay is really just too much. a little bit of it might not be so bad, but right now it just constantly sounds like the drummer is constantly screwing up.

the song is pretty good other than all these things. i actually like the vocals for the most part, and the lyrics are humorous without being completely stupid (which is a rare feat).

if you got someone who knew what they were doing to record you're band, i bet it would sound great!

Brilliant!
I loved this song. The vocals were a perfect fit for the mood of this song. The hook and the melody are money. I was laughing singing along with the pre-chorus/chorus everytime it played. The lead guitar playing wasn't great, but it reminded me of some of the stuff off of the Cl
